Our Story
Where did it all start?
Well, it started with the love of flowers! I am Becky one of the founders of the Flower Farm Denstroude and here is a little bit more about us.
As I say we really are a family run business, the lovely Pips (co founder & mother in law) owns the land in which we run the flower farm, headed up by myself Becky, Sue (Mum), Gary (Dad) Kevin (Father inlaw), Jack (Husband) and not forgetting my beautiful daughter Nancy.
The business first openend its doors for trading in 2022 but the prior years before this was really setting up the land and getting it flower worthy! I myself was and still am a complete novice (although I have learnt a little on the way). That really is the beauty of what I do, it allows for trial and error and it allows you to explore new varieties and concepts.
Home grown and not flown
Pick your own has risen in popularity over the years and was firstly introduced for the harvest of foods such as fruit, the concept came from this but rather than fruit what could be better than picking your own fresh bunch of British flowers.
We want to make the flower field as welcoming as possible to allow people a relaxing experience, even better a great spot for a picnic and spending some quality time to emmerse yourself in the beauty of flowers and Kentish countryside.
Around 90% of flowers are imported to the UK from overseas, mainly due to the to cheaper prices and lack of supply.
We are on a mission to change this, our favourite tag line to the farm is "home grown and not flown" we want to introduce as many people as possible to the amazing quality produce that is here right beneath our noses.
It is really important to me, that we are encouraging as much biodiversity as we can, we opt for the "No dig" method of gardening to ensure we are always giving back to the land and not taking. We love to see the bees and insects enjoying the fruits of our labour and will be making it another mission of ours to be as sustainable and eco friendly as possible in everything we do.
